A Toad!

We found a toad! While playing on the hillside, a group of both Dogwood and Pine friends came across something they have never noticed on the grassy hill: a toad! Many kids kept a safe distance from the toad that hopped around. Many of the kids watched in silence as it traveled around, but others had many questions, comments, and squeals!

"It's so brown! It's hard to see."
"I can't see it."

"It looks like the tree!"
"I think he's invisible."

"He jumped in here."
"I think he went to his house."
"He is hot, he needs to cool off."

After the toad jumped into the tree, K and J found something else that looked particularly interesting. Soon, a crowd formed around a small dark shape.

"We found another frog!"
"I think he's going to jump out."
"That's not a frog... it's a rock!"

It was, indeed, a rock. After inspecting it for a few seconds the kids all agreed it was just a dusty rock that happened to look like the toad.

Day 2 Pine Room Fun!

For our invitations we have our small world were we can tell stories about what our families like to do outside. In our dramatic play we are showing how we can care for others, including our baby dolls. Outside we are checking out how fun our giant snail and mud kitchen are.

Tree Swing

Because S spends the beginning of her day in another classroom, she was already familiar with a coveted branch that hung low enough for the kids to try and swing on.  "There's a tree swing at the forest, we should all do it!" S, who seemed to display a high level of confidence, took a hold of the branch as R handed it to her. She took a deep breath and jumped off the log.  S swung with grace over the ground.  The others watched in awe and quickly lined up to take turns.  Each friend took a different approach and not always quite sure on how to get the same kind of lift and swing S did. W seemed unsure on the whole activity, but was willing to try. He couldn't quite get the desired swinging motion and lost interest after his first try.  L saw how the others were swinging and although a little scared, decided to try several times in a row be...

Creek Time

Happy Tuesday! We spent our entire afternoon out at Larson Park! It was definitely a hot one so when the kids heard we were going to get to play in the creek, they screamed in excitement. Not everyone wanted to stomp around in the shallow water and that was a-okay. Such a fun afternoon splashing around, exploring, and doing a great job sticking together as a class!
