Hillside Findings

While out on the hillside, M yelled excitedly at something he found with a friend from Dogwood.

"Look! Look! It's little mushrooms!"

"They are brown and so small."

"Yeah, they are tiny! I don't know if there are anymore around here."

"See how tiny it is. I think they are poisonous!"

"Yeah, we can't eat these ones."

"I don't know how they got here."

"I think they just grew here."
"Someone planted them here!"

L soon became very interested in what the boys found. He examined the fungi with both his fingers and his eye.

"Look, there's the mushrooms!"

L dug around the surrounding area looking around for other small mushrooms to pick.

"I don't see anymore. I don't like them, they are yucky!"

M, W, & L continued their search around the hillside to find more mushrooms. They looked around in the grass and especially near trees. Although they were unsuccessful they were curious about how the mushrooms got there. How did the mushrooms appear? Are there other plants that pop up without anyone planting them?

Day 2 Pine Room Fun!

For our invitations we have our small world were we can tell stories about what our families like to do outside. In our dramatic play we are showing how we can care for others, including our baby dolls. Outside we are checking out how fun our giant snail and mud kitchen are.

Digital World

This afternoon the kids settled into different activities after arrival. Some kids found themselves making a whole city with painter's tape roads, some dove into some books to get a good read in, and others tried making all kinds of creations out of legos. It isn't out of the ordinary for the kids to ask if we can play "office." This pretend play cracks us all up because they are clearly imitating many of the same mannerisms they have seen either at home or at school. They pile stacks of papers next to them, lay out a bunch of markers, and start "typing" away on the out of commission computers we have. They talk about all the emails and notes they have to send. They make phone calls to each other and write copious amount of letters to send in the mail. Hilarious! Today, I wanted to test out their letter identification as well as their typing skills they have been showing off these last few months. Creek Time

Happy Tuesday! We spent our entire afternoon out at Larson Park! It was definitely a hot one so when the kids heard we were going to get to play in the creek, they screamed in excitement. Not everyone wanted to stomp around in the shallow water and that was a-okay. Such a fun afternoon splashing around, exploring, and doing a great job sticking together as a class!
