It was a beautiful afternoon to spend outside on the hillside with friends from Magnolia and Dogwood. Our friends were excited to share the kind of painting we've been doing in the classroom with the other kids.
"It works when it's close. It works far away too."
"Look! It's working. There's so much yellow."
"Oh! It's dripping down everywhere!"
"There's so much water. It's turning the floor blue."
"It's turning blue when I spray the purple."
"It's making orange!"
"It doesn't really work when it's upside down. There isn't enough. You can shake it up though and it works!"
The kids emptied all of the color from the water bottles onto the shirts. It seemed like that was the end of their color exploration until presented with a bucket of soapy water."
"What can we use this for?"
"It's water!"
"All of the color is going away!"
"The water is purple and the shirts are white."
"The water is purple and the shirts are white."
"The water made it go away."
"My hands are purple!"
"The shirt is turning white again! I keep washing it to make it clean."
"The color is all gone!"
By the end of capering, the t-shirts were white again. The kids wondered a few things: what happened to the color? Can we get the color back? How did the color go away?
Next week we will continue to explore colors and look a little closer at how we can make them disappear and reappear.
