Collaborative Art

The Pine friends were excited to share the collection of pine cones they found on our walk the other day with friends from Magnolia and Dogwood.

"Let's paint them the colors from that!"

J started working on painting her pine cone when she noticed the projected picture.

"I'm going to use those colors for mine and yellow because my shirt is yellow!"

"It's kind of sticky. I am making it blue."

A lot of the kids talked about how sticky the pine cones were.

"I think someone put glue on them."
"It's really sticky and makes my hands stick."
"I don't know how they get so sticky."
"It's called sap!"
"What's sap?"
"It's stuff on the pine cones."

A from Dogwood was interested in mixing two different colors to make a new one.

"I wonder what red and yellow make. Can I try it?"
A put some yellow paint into the container and then added red.
"Nothing happened!"
He stared at it for a moment, then mixed up the two colors.
"It turned orange!"

"Look it made orange! I want to mix red and blue next."

A continued to mix different colors and test them out on his pine cone.

Such a fun afternoon getting together with other classes and collaborating on art pieces that will be displayed for them to see.

Day 2 Pine Room Fun!

For our invitations we have our small world were we can tell stories about what our families like to do outside. In our dramatic play we are showing how we can care for others, including our baby dolls. Outside we are checking out how fun our giant snail and mud kitchen are.

Rainbow Snow!

The Pine kids wrapped up their week with playing in the snow! Unfortunately, it is just a wee bit too cold to be playing outside. I do appreciate all of the kids wearing snow boots, coats, hats, and gloves though! It's helpful for the days in which we do decide to take a quick walk around the block 😊 Instead of playing in the snow outside, we brought it inside! Snow is fun to play in, but we couldn't really build a snowman, throw it around, or make snowballs.. what could we do?! Then it dawned on us, let's paint it! We got out some water colors, eye droppers, and a big pile of snow and the kids went to town. They used their knowledge of mixing colors to create new ones as they dropped them onto the white snow.  "It's so cold!" "Look, look, I am making it pink!" "It's blue snow!" They giggled and laughed as the slow melting snow absorbed the bright vibrant colors. It hardly looked like snow anymore! This was a great way to incorporate...
