Finding Pine Cones

L ran into the classroom this afternoon with a pine cone exclaiming, "I found this pine cone at the construction house!"

The others started asking L a lot of questions and made some comments.

"Where was it?"
"Can I see it?"
"I see those too!"
"I found it on the ground."

At our meeting the kids discussed since we are going to the forest we should look for pine cones!

After about 15 minutes of searching meticulously, they were quite disappointed.

"I can't find any pine cones. There are too many leaves on the ground."

They had given up hope on pine cones, but started collecting other "treasures."
"We can look for something else."
"Yeah, let's look for acorns!"
"And leaves!"
"What about flowers?"

It wasn't until our walk home that the kids spotted pine cones!

"Look! There are so many pine cones!"
"I can't believe they are right here."
"I knew we would find some!"

"There are so many here. I remembered there was a pine tree by school."

We briefly chatted about why we didn't see any pine cones in the forest.
"There weren't any there."
"Pine cones come from pine trees! We didn't find any pine cones because there weren't any pine trees."

Back in the room we took a closer look at what pine cones were all about.

"They have slime in them."
"Yeah it's really sticky and slimy."
"You can make perfume out of them!"
"Let's make perfume out of them!"
"We can squeeze them to get the water out and make the perfume."

Thursday's agenda: make perfume from pine cones 😊

Day 2 Pine Room Fun!

For our invitations we have our small world were we can tell stories about what our families like to do outside. In our dramatic play we are showing how we can care for others, including our baby dolls. Outside we are checking out how fun our giant snail and mud kitchen are.

Today was “the most amazing day” according to one friend! Thanks to PAT for leaving the glow party up for us! We also started working on a project that combines letters and numbers, it’s called a graph.

Not a Box!

Good  morning! Today, Ms. Kim is going to show you what she did with a box she found at home. She demonstrates using the core words and even has a special guest to help her with the video. Have you figured out what to do with a box you have at your house? What did you make? What can you make?  We are loving all of the different things some of you have made out of boxes! Keep those creative ideas flowing!!
