What's the Opposite of Heavy?

This afternoon M came across an invitation our morning class has been interacting with over the last two weeks. The question asked is "Can You Make It Move?"

M picked up the fan and turned it on. He started pulling out different materials like a crayon, paper, a pine cone, and a feather.

"These are going across the table! They are moving so fast with the fan."

K wandered over and wanted to see what else could move across the table.
"Here, try this M!"

She placed a big tree cookie in front of the fan.
"It's not moving! It's too heavy."
"Is anything else too heavy?"
"Yeah let's try more things."

M and K continued to try different materials. They began making a pile of the things that would not move with the fan.

"We have all the things that are heavy and all of the things that are not heavy."
"Yeah like they don't move when you use the fan."
"Heavy means like it's really big and um it just really big."
"Yeah heavy is when it's like in your hand and then your hand hits the floor."

When asked what's the opposite of heavy, the two stopped and pondered.
"Um the opposite of heavy is soft?"
"I think the opposite of heavy is not heavy."

The two sorted the materials into two piles: heavy and not heavy.

Both M and K were excited to share what objects moved and didn't moved when they used the fan. They were also excited to learn that the Pine AM friends were also working on the same things and wanted to know if they knew what the opposite of heavy was. Stay tuned!

Day 2 Pine Room Fun!

For our invitations we have our small world were we can tell stories about what our families like to do outside. In our dramatic play we are showing how we can care for others, including our baby dolls. Outside we are checking out how fun our giant snail and mud kitchen are.
