Why Do We Vote?

This afternoon before heading to the forest, the Pine friends were in quite the predicament.
What breathing technique should we use to calm our bodies down?

"I really want to do a snake breath!"
"But I think we should do a pretzel breath, we never do a pretzel breath!"
"No, the snake breath!"

What were we going to do?

The kids decided we needed to choose which one by voting.

Each child took their name and placed it under the picture of the kind of breath they wanted to take.

After everyone voted, it was decided that because 4 kids wanted to take a snake breath and only two wanted to the pretzel breath, we would do a snake breath.

"I just really wanted to do a pretzel breath, could we maybe do it later?"
"Let's do that one later!"

That was that, they came to a compromise. Snake breath before the forest and pretzel breath after the forest.

But why do we vote?

"I think we vote so we can make the right choice."
"We get to pick what we like!"
"Yeah! I like the snake breath!"

Throughout the rest of our day we took small votes on random things, but it mostly related to food.

What a great way to get everyone's voice heard!

Day 2 Pine Room Fun!

For our invitations we have our small world were we can tell stories about what our families like to do outside. In our dramatic play we are showing how we can care for others, including our baby dolls. Outside we are checking out how fun our giant snail and mud kitchen are.

Rainbow Snow!

The Pine kids wrapped up their week with playing in the snow! Unfortunately, it is just a wee bit too cold to be playing outside. I do appreciate all of the kids wearing snow boots, coats, hats, and gloves though! It's helpful for the days in which we do decide to take a quick walk around the block 😊 Instead of playing in the snow outside, we brought it inside! Snow is fun to play in, but we couldn't really build a snowman, throw it around, or make snowballs.. what could we do?! Then it dawned on us, let's paint it! We got out some water colors, eye droppers, and a big pile of snow and the kids went to town. They used their knowledge of mixing colors to create new ones as they dropped them onto the white snow.  "It's so cold!" "Look, look, I am making it pink!" "It's blue snow!" They giggled and laughed as the slow melting snow absorbed the bright vibrant colors. It hardly looked like snow anymore! This was a great way to incorporate...
