Making Maps

Welcome back! The Pine friends got right back where they left off before break. Today, though, the Pine friends welcomed a new friend! S fits right in and is eager to be a part of the group.

Immediately, S noticed the large yellow box in the back of the room. She asked a few people what it was and when told it was a submarine S broke out in song!
"We are going to America, we are going to Americaaaaa!"

How did she know how to get to America?
When asked this question, S simply responded, "You just use your tablet, it tells you how to get there."

But how does the tablet know?!

S took a minute to think.
"It has like these little dots that you have to follow to get there."

She ran to the table and began drawing.

She worked with purpose as she drew the "rainbow sea."
"I am making the tablet that has the map so you know where to go. The red dots are like where the submarine needs to go to get to America."

She then ran the newly drawn tablet over to the submarine and passed it to W who was patiently waiting inside.

W studied the map and looked at the different colors representing the sea, the route, and buttons that represented the tablet.
"He's going to America, he's going to Americaaaaaaa!"

L sat down and wanted to draw a map too. His map was a little different though.
"It's to find the treasure!"

He drew a few symbols and then folded it up.
"It has the people on it and then a map for treasure!"

The Pine friends now had two separate maps... one to show a route and one to find treasure. Are there any other kind of maps?

With some digging and searching around the building we came across a map.

"Look, look, it has streets, and a river, and houses!"

L traced along the curved lines with his finger and started pointing out the different features of the map. He paused for only moment to use binoculars to view it. He searched the map from far away at first, and then much closer.

"Look, now the map has treasure all over it!"

Such a fun and creative day here in the Pine room. We are looking forward to seeing how maps may influence their pretend play in the submarine and what other ideas they might have.

So happy to have everyone back!

Day 2 Pine Room Fun!

For our invitations we have our small world were we can tell stories about what our families like to do outside. In our dramatic play we are showing how we can care for others, including our baby dolls. Outside we are checking out how fun our giant snail and mud kitchen are.

Today was “the most amazing day” according to one friend! Thanks to PAT for leaving the glow party up for us! We also started working on a project that combines letters and numbers, it’s called a graph.

Not a Box!

Good  morning! Today, Ms. Kim is going to show you what she did with a box she found at home. She demonstrates using the core words and even has a special guest to help her with the video. Have you figured out what to do with a box you have at your house? What did you make? What can you make?  We are loving all of the different things some of you have made out of boxes! Keep those creative ideas flowing!!
