Creating a Calm Space

Good morning! Today's focus is about creating a space in your home that can be used as a calm space for your child. This space is reserved for times when your child is feeling those big emotions and may need more support in order to regulate those feelings.

Create an environment that is both calming and comfortable. It is often suggested to find a corner of a room and fill it with pillows, blankets, and toys that a child can use to focus on while they are coping with their frustration, sadness, or any other big feeling.

In our space at school, we use the cube.

It's a small define space in which the kids can crawl into and get comfortable- if they choose. The space you can create in your home is a place they can choose to go to. It is meant as an invitation, and not a punishment. Have your child help create the space in hopes to make it a place they choose to go to when feeling upset.

The video below gives two breathing examples you can practice with your child. It is important to note that these breathing techniques should be practiced before a child is in crisis. Try breathing along with me! As your child practices you can tell them how calm they are while they are breathing, reinforcing the appropriate behavior.

Have a great Tuesday and don't forget to celebrate something you did today!

Day 2 Pine Room Fun!

For our invitations we have our small world were we can tell stories about what our families like to do outside. In our dramatic play we are showing how we can care for others, including our baby dolls. Outside we are checking out how fun our giant snail and mud kitchen are.

Happy First Day of School 24-25!

Welcome Pine Families to our 24-25 school year! We are so happy to have your kiddos back in our room. It is so amazing to see how much they have grown physically AND socially, emotionally, and academically!

Welcome back!!

I hope you all enjoyed your long break together. We are back at it with our same centers and focus words UP and DOWN. This will be the last week for our current activities and will change it up for the last 2 weeks before our next BIG break. Only 12 days left together for the year and we are counting down!  Please help us celebrate:  Pine’s Friendsgiving Feast! Your kiddos have been hard at work filling each other's buckets through acts of kindness. They earned a special celebration before the Thanksgiving break but we held off our celebration so all friends could participate. Today we read a book called Feast for 10 and were inspired by some ingredients. If you would like to help us celebrate our friendship and donate to our feast, we would love it! Our plan is to celebrate on Thursday Dec 5th. Thanks :) https://docs.google.com/document/d/1Zu9-130U8W6xGWiNsdlLMXYA9q8yOASwtSEybrST3Rc/edit?usp=sharing
