Nature Loom

Every Wednesday the Pine class will start traveling to the forest to spend some time in the fresh air. Today we made our first visit with a plan in mind. The forest is such a great space to run around, climb, and look a little closer at nature. In our adventure today, the boys loaded themselves up with bags and a checklist. We set out to add to the nature loom the morning class started!

The boys checklist contained just a few different kinds of things they may find in the forest: sticks, flowers, and berries. These are just a few of the common items typically found, but there's always opportunities to add to the list. With bags in hand they ran off into the dense trees.

This is where we saw how J & L approach the project very differently!

"It looks like a spider web!"

"Yeah all of the stuff can be trapped in it."

"We can trap all of the nature!"

L decided he was going to do one thing at a time. He would dash into the forest at full speed, look for a particular leaf or branch and then run full speed back out to show me. Instead of using his bag, he made a plan to look for just one thing at a time.

"They are staying in! I found these berries way up high. I had to climb up and then I ran and showed you. Can we keep them? Are they going to stay at school? This is a cool loom!"

J, on the other hand, decided to collect a whole bunch of stuff before coming to the loom to put them in.

"I'm making them stay on. I found so many berries and they are blueberries! Did you see the blueberries in the forest? I got them all!"

I love being able to see how each boy completes and participates an activity. While they are both fast moving and have great ideas, they each took a different approach to it all. This might even change for the next time! Being able to sit back and observe their interaction with activities is a beautiful thing. Such a happy Wednesday!

Day 2 Pine Room Fun!

For our invitations we have our small world were we can tell stories about what our families like to do outside. In our dramatic play we are showing how we can care for others, including our baby dolls. Outside we are checking out how fun our giant snail and mud kitchen are.

Today was “the most amazing day” according to one friend! Thanks to PAT for leaving the glow party up for us! We also started working on a project that combines letters and numbers, it’s called a graph.

Not a Box!

Good  morning! Today, Ms. Kim is going to show you what she did with a box she found at home. She demonstrates using the core words and even has a special guest to help her with the video. Have you figured out what to do with a box you have at your house? What did you make? What can you make?  We are loving all of the different things some of you have made out of boxes! Keep those creative ideas flowing!!
