Will It Come Out?

Hello & happy Monday! Since we are working on the words in, out, eat, and open this week the boys had an opportunity to play and do an experiment with the wind tunnel! Last week, L was really interested in doing an experiment, so we though this would be our first one of the year. The boys had 4 different options to try today: mesh material, brown paper, tissue paper, and cellophane (crinkle paper). We did, however, have one big question while playing: will it come out?

Each boy picked up some of the mesh material out of the basket. L went first and put his piece through.
"Look, look, it's coming out! It worked!"
J then put his in.
"Mine worked too. It came out!"

Excitement was in the air! The boys were now motivated to try out the other materials. Before moving on though, we decided to make a chart to track our data.  Each boy had the opportunity to make a mark under the "yes, it floats" or "no, it doesn't." column. Then they were off to the next material to try.

As they worked through each piece of fabric they commented on what happened.
"It goes up so high and then comes back down."
"I think I can catch it!"
"I want to catch it too. I want to catch it on my head!"
That then started a game.

The boys gathered up as much of one paper as they could to see if it would all come out and then land on top of the other. The boys did such a great job taking turns! As one went to put paper in, the other sat just in front of the opening of the wind tunnel. As the paper made its way slowly through the tube the boys cheered it on.
"Go paper go! Make it come out!"
"It's so slow!"

Teacher facilitated games often go from being one kind of activity and turn into an entirely new one. This is so good! It was so great to watch the boys take turns with one another, change the original game into another, and continue to experiment with the different types of paper. We will continue this experiment as the week goes on. What a way to start off the week!

Day 2 Pine Room Fun!

For our invitations we have our small world were we can tell stories about what our families like to do outside. In our dramatic play we are showing how we can care for others, including our baby dolls. Outside we are checking out how fun our giant snail and mud kitchen are.

Rainbow Snow!

The Pine kids wrapped up their week with playing in the snow! Unfortunately, it is just a wee bit too cold to be playing outside. I do appreciate all of the kids wearing snow boots, coats, hats, and gloves though! It's helpful for the days in which we do decide to take a quick walk around the block 😊 Instead of playing in the snow outside, we brought it inside! Snow is fun to play in, but we couldn't really build a snowman, throw it around, or make snowballs.. what could we do?! Then it dawned on us, let's paint it! We got out some water colors, eye droppers, and a big pile of snow and the kids went to town. They used their knowledge of mixing colors to create new ones as they dropped them onto the white snow.  "It's so cold!" "Look, look, I am making it pink!" "It's blue snow!" They giggled and laughed as the slow melting snow absorbed the bright vibrant colors. It hardly looked like snow anymore! This was a great way to incorporate...
