Bird is the Word

This afternoon we spent some time outside up by the swings. This area is not typically highly preferred today, but something happened! The kids noticed the birds up on a feeder.

"What are they eating?"

"Do they eat snack too?"

"I think they eat bird food!"

We quickly gathered some materials on hand and began to create our own bird feeders from the materials we had in the classroom: pipe cleaners, string, and Cheerios.

Immediately the kids dove into the activity and began placing one Cheerio at a time. They really took the time to sit and slide the small round cereal onto the fuzzy wire. Some of them made shapes with their pipe cleaners while others kept them in straight lines.

Once they finished they made a choice of what tree or other structure to put it on. L & O chose to put them on the tree, but J found another place to put it! He decided that his bird feeder would sit by the other ones that were already out.

Within minutes the feeders were visited by a few curious birds. The kids laughed and cheered, but unfortunately scared the birds away with excitement. No biggie, we will probably seem them again later this week.

At the end of the day we began talking about ourselves. Moving forward on our community building we will start to focus on what makes up a community. For the time being we will be focusing on our individual selves and creating some self portraits.

Can't wait to see what this week brings!

Day 2 Pine Room Fun!

For our invitations we have our small world were we can tell stories about what our families like to do outside. In our dramatic play we are showing how we can care for others, including our baby dolls. Outside we are checking out how fun our giant snail and mud kitchen are.

Today was “the most amazing day” according to one friend! Thanks to PAT for leaving the glow party up for us! We also started working on a project that combines letters and numbers, it’s called a graph.

Not a Box!

Good  morning! Today, Ms. Kim is going to show you what she did with a box she found at home. She demonstrates using the core words and even has a special guest to help her with the video. Have you figured out what to do with a box you have at your house? What did you make? What can you make?  We are loving all of the different things some of you have made out of boxes! Keep those creative ideas flowing!!
