How Does it Stick?

Painting has become a HUGE preferred activity with the kids. They love being able to use brushes, but they also learned another way to paint: cotton balls!

L wanted to give this new painting a try. He watched as a friend from Dogwood dipped a cotton ball in the paint and then threw it against the paper.

"That's cool! Look, it's sticking on the paper! How does it stick?"

L asks some of the best questions when he's trying to figure something out. He inspected the paper a little closer to see if he could figure out exactly how the cotton balls were sticking.

"I don't know how they stay on. What makes them stick?"

We sat together and pondered...

"Maybe there's glue or maybe it just sticks. I think the paint makes it stick. Like the blue and pink sticks."

From there, L meticulously dipped the cotton balls into the same three colors: blue, purple, and black because he was convinced those were that was the only color combination to make them stick.

"The ones that falled off didn't work. They did not win!"

While I wasn't entirely sure what he meant by "win," I did understand how he thought only blue, purple, and black would stick. A lot of the pink ones were on the ground!

While we may never really fully understand why the cotton balls with certain colors stuck, L definitely had fun flinging them at the paper.

Happy Thursday and enjoy your weekend!

Day 2 Pine Room Fun!

For our invitations we have our small world were we can tell stories about what our families like to do outside. In our dramatic play we are showing how we can care for others, including our baby dolls. Outside we are checking out how fun our giant snail and mud kitchen are.

Rainbow Snow!

The Pine kids wrapped up their week with playing in the snow! Unfortunately, it is just a wee bit too cold to be playing outside. I do appreciate all of the kids wearing snow boots, coats, hats, and gloves though! It's helpful for the days in which we do decide to take a quick walk around the block 😊 Instead of playing in the snow outside, we brought it inside! Snow is fun to play in, but we couldn't really build a snowman, throw it around, or make snowballs.. what could we do?! Then it dawned on us, let's paint it! We got out some water colors, eye droppers, and a big pile of snow and the kids went to town. They used their knowledge of mixing colors to create new ones as they dropped them onto the white snow.  "It's so cold!" "Look, look, I am making it pink!" "It's blue snow!" They giggled and laughed as the slow melting snow absorbed the bright vibrant colors. It hardly looked like snow anymore! This was a great way to incorporate...
