Surprise Creek!

The kids are loving being able to watch these little caterpillars crawl around in the plastic cup. It's the first thing they ask about when coming into school! We spent the majority of the beginning of the day looking at the caterpillars, drawing them, and trying to make them out of clay. It was was both calming and educational! Shout out to L for bringing in a cool book about bugs and specifically butterflies 😊

Our day was not finished, however. After meeting we set out on our walk towards the sculpture park. We found out from another classroom that there is access to a creek a little bit down the road from the sculpture park. We HAD to check it out. Below you can see their excitement in being able to explore the new space. They talked about what animals they might see, what they could do in the creek, and how the water felt. It was such a good short visit that the kids cannot wait to throw on some rain boots and play in the creek for next time!

Day 2 Pine Room Fun!

For our invitations we have our small world were we can tell stories about what our families like to do outside. In our dramatic play we are showing how we can care for others, including our baby dolls. Outside we are checking out how fun our giant snail and mud kitchen are.

My dad has white skin!"  "My mom and I are white, and my dad and sister are really tan!" "My family all has brown skin like me. My mom is a little different brown though. My baby sisters look like me!" We got out the skin tone colored crayons and the kids carefully chose the colors they needed to represent their families.  "I need the tan ones because I am kind of tan and so is my mom. My dad and sister are darker than us so I need to use like a darker brown. I need the black too because they have dark hair. I have brown hair and my mom has like brownish hair but it's also kind of yellow." S worked on her family portrait as well. She, too, noted that she needed different colored cra...
