Fishing in the Collaboratory

It's not every day that the kids say they do NOT want to go outside. We were shocked! At the very end of our meeting with Kari the kids took a vote: Collaboratory or Outside?

It was a landslide victory to go play in the collaboratory rather than play outside. The kids lined up and we made our way to the big space. It wasn't before long that they got right into playing a game they called "fishing!" It was hilarious. They all gathered long blue foam pieces to use as their rods and dipped them into the "water." There was one glaring problem... there were no fish! Luckily for us... these guys made their own fish. Our next problem, however, was a thinker. How were the fish going to stay on the pole?

"We need sticky!"

"Yeah like something that makes it stick to the fishing pole."

"Maybe we can have tape?"

Tape it is! With a little bit of help we got some tape onto the ends of the fish and the kids went at it! They loaded up the boats and started fishing for all the different colored fish floating around in the "water." Love to see this spontaneous pretend play. It was full of laughs, kind words, and sharing. A great day for the Pine room 😊

Day 2 Pine Room Fun!

For our invitations we have our small world were we can tell stories about what our families like to do outside. In our dramatic play we are showing how we can care for others, including our baby dolls. Outside we are checking out how fun our giant snail and mud kitchen are.

Rainbow Snow!

The Pine kids wrapped up their week with playing in the snow! Unfortunately, it is just a wee bit too cold to be playing outside. I do appreciate all of the kids wearing snow boots, coats, hats, and gloves though! It's helpful for the days in which we do decide to take a quick walk around the block 😊 Instead of playing in the snow outside, we brought it inside! Snow is fun to play in, but we couldn't really build a snowman, throw it around, or make snowballs.. what could we do?! Then it dawned on us, let's paint it! We got out some water colors, eye droppers, and a big pile of snow and the kids went to town. They used their knowledge of mixing colors to create new ones as they dropped them onto the white snow.  "It's so cold!" "Look, look, I am making it pink!" "It's blue snow!" They giggled and laughed as the slow melting snow absorbed the bright vibrant colors. It hardly looked like snow anymore! This was a great way to incorporate...
