Chalk Drawings

No matter where we are or what we are doing, these kids always seem to gravitate towards drawing! It was no different today out on the playscape. Many of the kids started requesting to draw with paper and markers, but it was too windy! The paper may blow away... so the next best thing was some sidewalk chalk.

L & O made their way over to the sidewalk, picked out their favorite colors, and started drawing. L, however, started doing something different. She started tracing her hand! This gave us an idea. What if we traced our whole bodies?

Within minutes several kids ran over to try their best to try and trace one another.

"I look like a gingerbread!"

"They are so funny!"
"F & O are holding hands! That's so funny!"

The kids worked hard as they started coloring in different parts of their bodies, adding in all kinds of facial features, and of course adding their favorite parts of the outfit.

"Look, I added a hat to F's body!"

"He needs shoes!"
"I need to make feet too!"

Although it was hot, we enjoyed our time outside on the playscape.

Day 2 Pine Room Fun!

For our invitations we have our small world were we can tell stories about what our families like to do outside. In our dramatic play we are showing how we can care for others, including our baby dolls. Outside we are checking out how fun our giant snail and mud kitchen are.

Families

My dad has white skin!"  "My mom and I are white, and my dad and sister are really tan!" "My family all has brown skin like me. My mom is a little different brown though. My baby sisters look like me!" We got out the skin tone colored crayons and the kids carefully chose the colors they needed to represent their families.  "I need the tan ones because I am kind of tan and so is my mom. My dad and sister are darker than us so I need to use like a darker brown. I need the black too because they have dark hair. I have brown hair and my mom has like brownish hair but it's also kind of yellow." S worked on her family portrait as well. She, too, noted that she needed different colored cra...
